South West Academy Open Exhibition 2024
Sidmouth , Devon
Running fromTuesday 29th October to Saturday 9th November 2024
The South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts was formed at the very beginning of the new millennium. The first idea came from Brian Bearne, auctioneer and great supporter of the arts. He believed that there should be an organization for the South West of England "with the objective of bringing together the Fine and Applied Arts, at the highest level".
As a qualified designer, practising artist and qualified art teacher I am pleased the South West Academy encourage younger artists and designers which feel is so important. Art appreciation and practise definitely helps people understand their surroundings and it can enrich their lives and sense of wellbeing.
My selected of the below work has given me the opportunity to show a piece from my current project “Dartmoor Bogs, Rivers and Streams” Dartmoor Bogs an important characteristic of Dartmoor as they are a huge carbon dioxide storer.

“Light, Colour and Contrast”
Sandridge Barton Devon
Running from 7th June to 7th July 2024
I lived and worked as an artist in The Var in Provence. My work changed direction as I worked Plein Air with my larger canvases propped up against Olive Trees . I really began to find a direction of experimental observe my contrasting surroundings in the Var compared to Dartmoor. On my return to Dartmoor and South Devon I wanted viewers to see this contrast ( and similarities) in the way of life and my immediate surroundings in the two different environments.
I was delighted Sandridge Barton , home of Sharpham wine, gave me this opportunity.

Society of Women Artists 163rd Annual Open Exhibition 2024
The Mall Galleries , London
Running from 25th June to 29th June 2024
The Society of Women Artists is a historic and important society. It was founded in 1855 by courageous and talented women who were unable to exhibit in the male-dominated culture they were born into. Every generation of women since has taken the baton and run with it with an energy and determination that comes through in their work today.
I regularly draw figurers in Dartmoor, as they go about their everyday rural life. “Shopping” s depicts a lady crossing the road on a bitter winters day, wearing an old coat, in Mortonhampstead, Dartmoor. There is a lot of poverty in rural areas such as Dartmoor.
